  • Appearance: Dark brown, mostly clear. Small, light tan head.
  • Aroma: Malt, lightly roasted, caramel, bread.
  • Taste: Medium malt, toasted to roasted. Some caramel sweetness. Good balance.
  • Bought: La Couleur du Vin, 330 ml, CHF 4.50
  • Score: 3.6 (Aroma 7/10, Appearance 3/5, Taste 8/10, Palate 3/5, Overall 15/20)

  • Aroma: Peat, dark malt, roasted.
  • Taste: Strong peat, whiskey, dark malt. Too peaty for me.

  • Name: The Stillman’s La Catillon, ?%, Switzerland
  • Appearance: Light hazy orange golden, some off-white head.
  • Aroma: Fruits, some light hops and malt. 
  • Taste: More fruits, with laid-back hops and light malt. OK.
  • Bought: Fribourg Beer Festival, 330 ml, CHF 5.00

The Stillman’s Nero

  • Name: The Stillman’s Nero, 12%, Switzerland
  • Appearance: Very dark brown. Quite flat. Oily.
  • Aroma: Very dark malt, coffee, barrel.
  • Taste: Very dark malt, licorice, coffee. Barrel, but not too overpowering. Very nice!
  • Bought: Fribourg Beer Festival, 330 ml, CHF 5.00

  • Appearance: Basically black, some tan head, but not much.
  • Aroma: Dark malt, slight oak, smooth.
  • Taste: Dark malt, more oak, coffee. Smooth.
  • Bought: La Petite Brasserie (Fribourg), 330 ml, CHF 6.20
  • Score: 4.2 (Aroma 9/10, Appearance 4/5, Taste 9/10, Palate 4/5, Overall 16/20)

  • Taste: More honey, smoked. Long wood/barrel aftertaste.
